Data Deletion Policy
Last updated: April 30, 2026
At KitabHub, you have full control over your personal data. This policy explains how you can request deletion of your account and data, what happens when you do, and what data we may be required to retain.
1. Your Right to Deletion
You have the right to request the deletion of your KitabHub account and associated personal data at any time. This right is guaranteed under various data protection laws, including the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), and similar regulations worldwide.
2. How to Delete Your Account
You can delete your account in two ways:
Option 1: Through Account Settings
- Log in to your KitabHub account.
- Navigate to Settings → Account → Danger Zone.
- Click "Delete Account" and confirm your decision.
- Your account will be scheduled for deletion. You will receive a confirmation email.
Option 2: By Email Request
Send an email to privacy@kitabhub.app from the email address associated with your account, with the subject line "Account Deletion Request." Include your username for faster processing. We will verify your identity and process the request within thirty (30) days.
3. What Gets Deleted
When your account is deleted, the following data is permanently removed:
- Account information: Name, email, username, password hash, profile picture, bio, and role-specific profile data.
- Preferences: Reading preferences, genre selections, language settings, and notification preferences.
- Private content: Reading journal entries, private notes, saved drafts, and reading progress data.
- Connections: Follower/following relationships, club memberships, and connection data.
- Authentication tokens: All session tokens, 2FA secrets, and linked third-party authentication connections.
4. What May Remain
Certain data may be retained in limited circumstances:
- Public contributions: Reviews, posts, and dialogues you authored may be anonymized (attributed to "Deleted User") rather than deleted, as other users may have interacted with or relied upon this content. You may request full deletion of specific public posts as part of your deletion request.
- Legal obligations: We may retain certain data as required by applicable law, including for tax reporting, fraud prevention, dispute resolution, or compliance with legal processes. Such data is retained only for the minimum period required.
- Aggregated data: Anonymized, aggregated data that cannot identify you (e.g., total user counts, genre popularity statistics) may be retained for analytics.
- Backup retention: Your data may persist in encrypted backups for up to ninety (90) days after deletion. Backup data is not actively used and is purged as backups rotate.
5. Grace Period
After you initiate account deletion, there is a fourteen (14) day grace period during which you can cancel the deletion by logging back in and choosing to restore your account. After the grace period expires, deletion is irreversible.
6. Data Export (Portability)
Before deleting your account, you may request a full export of your personal data. To request an export:
- Go to Settings → Account → "Export My Data", or
- Email privacy@kitabhub.app with the subject "Data Export Request."
Your data export will be provided in a machine-readable format (JSON) and will be ready within seven (7) business days. The download link will expire after thirty (30) days.
7. Third-Party Data
Deleting your KitabHub account does not delete data held by third-party authentication providers (Google, Apple, LinkedIn). To manage data held by these providers, visit their respective privacy settings. KitabHub will revoke its access to your third-party accounts upon deletion.
